Animating an object along a path is very easy to do in DaVinci Resolve. It just takes a few minutes to do and get a perfect result. That’s possible with DaVinci Resolve’s Fusion tab. Let’s dive into that and know how to do that. I also added some pro tips, so don’t miss it.
Create a path
First, we create a path using a paint node, then animate that path, and after that, add an object.
- Drag and drop your clip in your timeline where you want to add this effect.
- Click the clip and go to the fusion page.
- Click the ‘mediain’ node and press { Ctrl + Space }. After that, a toolbox is opened.
- Search in the toolbox for ‘Paint’ and add that node.
- Click the ‘paint’ node, and in the preview window, you can see many options on the borders.
- Find the option called ‘Polylinestroke’ and click that button.
- After that, create a line by clicking two or three times on the preview window where you want to create that line.
- To adjust a line, click and adjust it using anchor points.
- After adjusting a line, a path is successfully created.
Animate a path
- Click that pain node; in the Inspector panel, you can see several options.
- Under the inspector panel, you will see an option called ‘Stock Control,’ and in Stock Control, you will see an option called ‘Write On.’
- In the write-on option, you can see 2 options: 1. Start, 2. End.
- First move to the first keyframe.
- Now change the End value to ‘0.001’ and add a keyframe.
- Now go a few frames forward and change both values: Start at 0.999 and End at 1.0, and add a keyframe.
- Now go down and modify spacing ‘0’.
- Now all the over animations are done.
Add a logo
- Go to the ‘Apply mode’ and select the ‘Merge’ option.
- Now go to the ‘Brush Control,’ and here select ‘Image.’
- After that, in Image Source, select ‘Clip,’ and now click ‘Browse’ and select an image, logo, or any other object on your device.
- Now change the size according to your needs.
- After that, your path animations are done.
Pro Tip
- Create this effect on an ‘adjustment layer’ so you can adjust your effect according to your needs, and you can also duplicate this effect and save it for future projects.
- If your animation feels leggy and you want to make it much smoother, use the ‘Spline’ option to smooth the animation. Just select all the animation splines and press S to smooth the animation.
- If you want to create a line animation effect! So I also created a detailed blog post about that topic; here is that link: How to create a line animation effect in DaVinci Resolve.
