Creating a line animation effect in DaVinci Resolve is very easy to do. It just takes a few minutes to do, and there are endless use cases for your projects. DaVinci Resolve provides a separate feature called ‘paint’ on the Fusion page. Let’s dive into the process and learn how to create the effect.
Fusion structure
- Drag and drop your footage where you want to add this line animation effect. You can also add a Fusion composition.
- Click the footage or fusion composition and go to the fusion page.
- Click the ‘mediain’ node and press { ctrl + Space }; after that, a toolbar opens.
- Search in the toolbar for ‘paint’ and add that node.
- Now your fusion structure is done here.
Create and adjust a line
- Click the ‘paint’ node, and in the preview window, you can see many options on the borders.
- Find the option called ‘Polylinestroke’ and click that button.
- After that, create a line by clicking two times on the preview window where you want to create that line.
- To adjust a line, click and adjust it using anchor points.
- For adjusting a line’s size and softness! Go to the inspector panel, and here you will see an option called ‘brush control,’ and here you will see those two options adjust according to your needs.
- On the button panel called ‘Apply Controls’, you can adjust color and apply mode as well.
- Now your line is perfectly done; now you just need to animate this line.
Animate the line
- Go to the ‘Inspector’ panel! Here you can find a drop-down menu called ‘Stroke Control’ (make sure your paint nodes are selected).
- Click the stroke control, and here you will see an option called ‘Write on.’
- In the write-on option, you will see there are two options: Start and End.
- Go to the first frame of the footage and decrease the ‘End’ option to ‘0’ and add a keyframe.
- Go a few frames ahead and bake the end option to ‘1’ and add the keyframe.
- Now you can see your line animation is done, but it’s a little bit laggy.
- To fix this, go to the ‘spline’ and select the ‘Paint’ option, select the spline, and press ‘S’; after that, your line animation is done perfectly.
