The Best Way To Remove Background In Davinci Resolve

The Best Way To Remove Background In Davinci Resolve

In Davinci Resolve, removing a Background is very easy. It has many ways to remove a background, and today I will show you the best way. It takes just a few clicks to achieve your desired result. For now, I give you one simple and best way so you don’t get confused between the selections. In Davinci Resolve, there is a tool called ‘ Magic Mask ‘, which is the best tool for removing backgrounds from your footage. Let’s dive into it and see how it works.

Magic Mask

A magic mask is a Fusion node where you can remove the background and get your perfect result with all specifications. It removes the background frame by frame, so you get perfect background removal footage. In the magic mask, it has two modes: 1. ‘faster’, 2. ‘Better’

Faster: a faster mode is a faster version of Magic Mask; it gives you a faster result. If you want a normal and simple background removal footage for your project, you can definitely use it.

Better: a better mode is Best for removing a background from your footage. It has some detailed customization, so you get the perfect background removed footage. A better mode takes a few seconds more to remove the background, but the final result is better than a faster version.

(I prefer a Better version because it gives better results)

Remove Background Using Magic Mask

  • Select your clip and go to the fusion page.
  • Select the ‘ Mediain1 ‘ node and press ‘Ctrl + Space’ so it will open a toolbox.
  • Search in the toolbox for ‘magic mask ‘ and add the effect.
  • Go to the inspector panel and in the tracking section, you can see these two modes: Faster and Better. ( For this tutorial, I use Better mode; both modes have the same technique.)
  • In better mode, you can see the ‘Refine Range.’ By default, it is set at 30, so increase it a little bit, like to 45. (Refine Range is defined by your subject’s border radius; for a little bit of an increase, it gives a better output, especially when your subject is moving faster.)
  • Go to the preview window, and you can see your point become a pen tool, so now create a subject line.
  • Draw a line on your subject. Make sure you draw your line perfectly.
  • Then go down, and you can see a tracking option.
  • Now track the subject forward, and if you select the middle frame, you can track forward and backward as well.
  • It takes some time after that! Your background is to be removed.

Note: If your footage is not removing a background perfectly, delete the ‘Magic Mask’ node and repeat the process for the best result.
