Isolating a single color in Davinci Resolve is very simple to do. It looks very creative when footage has only one color isolated, and the other colors are back and white. It’s possible with the Davinci Resolve color tab, and after you read this blog! You will know how to do it in just a few minutes. Let’s dive into a step-by-step.
Step 1
- Drag and drop your footage into your timeline, select it, and then go to the Color tab.
- Go to the RGB Mixer located on the middle toolbar ribbon.
- In the RGB Mixer, you can see the Check box called ‘Monochrome’.
- Check the ‘Monochrome’ after you check this box! You can see your footage now in black and white completely.
- Go to the upper node structure. Right-click the node and select “Add Node > Add layer.” After that, your footage is duplicated.
- Here, the first step is complete.
Step 2
- GO to the Qualifier tool in the middle toolbar ribbon. (Note: Check that the duplicate clip is selected and the preview window color is normal; if not, click the duplicate layer and, after the click, the Qualifier tool.)
- Click the picker option, go to your preview window, and select the color in your footage that you want to isolate.
- After you click the footage’s specific color, DaVinci Resolve automatically detects that color.
- If DaVinci Resolve can’t detect all the single colors, then click the ‘Picker add’ tool and click the remaining color area of your footage.
- If your DaVinci Resolve selects a different color, you can remove that color with the ‘Picker subtract’ tool.
- After all your areas are selected! Then you can see your footage has one color isolated.
Pro Tip
- If your footage contains too much of one color, and you want to isolate just one object, first create two stacked layers of the same clip.
- After that, in the bottom layer, change to saturation ‘0’.
- In the upper layer, first create a magic mask and mask the subject, and then remove the background. After that, you can do the same process in the magic mask layer.
- If you don’t know how to remove the background from any footage? Then I also write about how to remove the background. Here is the link. Check it out: The Best Way to Remove Background in DaVinci Resolve.
