You’ve probably seen videos with text that follows a moving object. In DaVinci Resolve, creating that effect is very simple. It just takes a few minutes to track and match the moves of your object. That can be possible with the tracker in Davinci Resolve. At the end of the blog post, I also share some pro-tips. Let’s start with the Tracking.
Track A Subject
- Click Footage and go to the Fusion tab.
- Click the ‘Mediain’ node and press { Ctrl + Space }; after that, a toolbox will appear.
- Search in the toolbox ‘tracker’ and add it. (Make sure your tracker node are attached to the node chain.)
- Select the first frame of your footage. Make sure the first frame objects are perfectly visible.
- Click the tracker node, and in the inspector panel, you can see a bunch of options. Also, you can see a ‘Point’ box appear in the preview window.
- First, drag the ‘Point Box’ on your object where you want to track and move your text.
- Adjust the box according to the subject (Note: make sure your point boxes are slightly bigger than your object, so it can track the object perfectly).
- Go to Inspector Panel > Tracker. Here you can find a bunch of settings.
- Here you can find an option called ‘Adaptive Mode.’ Change this mode from ‘None’ to ‘Every Frame.’ If your subject are changing the perspective, you can select ‘Best match.’ (Choose according to your needs)
- After that, track the subject using the tracking forward option.
- Here, the first step is complete. Now we add text to your moving object.
Adding a text
- Click the tracker node and go to the ‘Operation’ section.
- Change the operation ‘non’ to ‘Match Move.’ Now, tracker work is complete here.
- Now, click the empty area of your node box and press { Ctrl + Space }; after that, a toolbox will appear.
- Search ‘Text+’ and add that node.
- Click the ‘text+’ node and again open the toolbox and search ‘transform,’ and add that node. So now your text+ node is connected with your transform node.
- Connect that transform node to the ‘tracker’ node.
- You can see that your text also moves as you object, but your text is not in the perfect location as you want.
- For that, use the transform node and change the position and zoom for the final results.
- After that, your text moving effects are perfectly done.
Pro Tip
- You can apply this text effect to any image or video as well.
- You can add multiple texts to a single tracking object by using a merge node.
- If you want to add this effect in a separate section, first cut that footage in the media tab, and then perform the work in Fusion.
- You can engage more with your audience by adding a Motion tracking Effect to your video. I also wrote a blog post about Motion tracking. Click here and know how to do it: How To Motion Track An Object In DaVinci Resolve.
Conclusion
