How To Remove The White Background In Davinci Resolve

How To Remove The White Background In Davinci Resolve

Removing a white background from any footage in DaVinci Resolve is very easy to do. It just takes a few minutes to do. Sometimes you may face a problem where you download an image or video with a white background, and you want to remove that white background. For that, I will show you two methods to remove it. Let’s understand how to do that.

Method 1

In this first method, we will use a 3D keyer for removing the white background in the Edit page.

  • Select your clip and graph and drop them in the timeline.
  • Click the tools overlay and change to ‘Open FX Overlay.’
  • Go to the effects panel and search for ‘3D Keyer’ and drag and paste that effect on the footage where you want to remove that white background.
  • In the inspector panel, you will see 3 pen options: 1. Pick, 2. Subtract 3. Add.
  • Click the ‘Pick’ option, and now in the preview window, draw a line on the white area so all white areas are removed.
  • (Note: by default, a Pick option is selected, but if not, you can select it manually.)
  • If in your footage’s border is slightly visible with a white line, zoom in and select the ‘add’ pen tool, and select that area.
  • If you want to remove some unwanted area, you can remove it using the ‘Subtract’ option.
  • Adjust according to your needs, and after that, your white background is removed.

Method 2

In this method, we will use the ‘Luma keyer’ for removing the white background in the Fusion page.

  • Select your clip and graph and drop it in the timeline, then click it and go to the Fusion page.
  • Click the ‘mediain’ node and press { Ctrl + Space }; after that, a toolbar will open.
  • Search in the toolbar for ‘Luma (LKy)’ and add that node.
  • After you add that node, you will see that your main subject is desaturated.
  • To fix it, click on ‘Luma Keyer’ and go to the inspector panel.
  • Here you can see a bunch of options. Click the Channel drop-down menu and select ‘saturation ‘.
  • To add more visibility, go down here; you can see two options: 1. Contrast, 2. Gamma.
  • Increase the contrast and decrease the gamma so you can see the main subject more clearly.
  • After all your settings are done, your footage’s background is removed.
